#138 Beet it

This is the most recent shirt that I've purchased. I got it on New Year's Eve of 2010. Doug (is it really telling that the word that my fingers started to type when I got to "dou" was douche?) was probably my second favorite cartoon when I was a kid. I dunno, I might have loved it more than the Ninja Turtles. I felt a strange kinship to the daydream-prone dorky kid in the sweatervest in love with the cute blond girl who lives down the street.

#115 Start the new year with a rawr.

I wanted to start off the new year with a new shirt and here it is. It's one from 80stees.com which has a ludicrously huge selection of pop culture shirts split up by various useful categories such as medium and franchise. It's pretty awesome. The only downside is that it's pretty pricey so I have only gotten stuff during their annual black friday sale.

Okay. Just had a thought. I mean this may be because of my still not quite all the way there brain after the party last night, but I don't have any resolutions yet this year and why not set one?

For 2011, I hereby resolve not to buy any t-shirts this year.

This may be a difficult or impossible feat or maybe it'll be really easy, who knows. But starting now, no new shirts for as long as I can stand it. There are still a lot of shirts that need to be blogged about so why get more? I'll at least hold out as long as I've got shirts to blog about. Alright. That's settled.

#95 CIA MIA?

Sorry for the poor lighting, but I don't really care that much, at least not about a CIA shirt. I believe this one is from my junior year. I never really understood why there was a splashy water pattern behind the CIA logo. Lots of ridiculous things happened that year band and basketball wise. Our men's team was undefeated at home, we traveled to the LBSU pyramid and played at a game there, then we lost to LBSU in the tournament off of a crazy three point shot at the buzzer. That was also the year that I learned that a lot of LBSU fans are kind of dicks.

Tonight the women's soccer team won in the first round of the NCAA tournament (they got a bid because they were ranked 11th in the nation) against ASU. We were down by a goal in the first half but we finally scored about 25 mins into the second half and then got another goal in about five minutes after that. It was actually a really fun game once we finally scored because the crowd was super into it. I mean, I barely give a shit about soccer, but that was pretty entertaining.

antourage

Today's shirt is the new UCI spirit shirt for the year. They're now known as the Antourage but I was personally pulling for the A-team (even though it's admittedly less fitting). Tonight's Shocktoberfest which is the kickoff event to the UCI basketball season.

Proper Engrish

I got this shirt way back when from Engrish.com. Engrish.com features fabulously failed attempts at English translations, mostly from Japan. That should be a clue as to why the shirt makes sense. You can find the shirt directly right here. It's apparently been discontinued. The rest of their store features a lot of funny and just downright bizarre designs. I think Trevor and Emiko were probably the ones to direct me to that site in the first place since I'm pretty darn white (you can tell because I just used the word darn). Also I neglected to think to do the squinty peace sign face in my picture and that definitely knocks me down a peg on the Asianity scale (which I assume goes from Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's to Jackie Chan playing the violin in a rice paddy hat).

Okay I'm just going to quit while I'm behind.

Wide logos are not boob friendly. Allison, on the other hand, is.

This shirt is the first CIA shirt that I ever got from UCI all the way back in my freshman year. CIA (Completely Insane Anteaters) is what the UCI student cheering section used to be called (it's been recently redubbed the Antourage).

Tonight we're playing for our new friends the Women's Soccer team. It rained a little (maybe even less than a little, like only a 'lil) this morning and I'm hoping that's all done for today because it would not be fun to play at a soccer game in the rain (though we've gotten caught in the rain before...with nary a piña colada to comfort ourselves with). Though watching attractive women play soccer in the rain...and the mud...perhaps falling over each other...there's some appeal there I think...for people of a certain disposition, of course.

Really not helping this whole not a skank argument.

By Lancers Do They Mean Knights?

Here's another thrift store football shirt. It's weird that I would have two of these. Anywho this shirt is for the La Serna Lancers Coach of the Week. I never really thought about this but is a Lancer one who uses a lance? Wouldn't that just be a knight? Or if it's one who supplies a knight with lances that would be a squire. Or a maker of lancers would probably just be a blacksmith. I mean, wikipedia has a real answer, but whatevs. I can't really be too confused since all of my school mascots have been pretty weird (a poet, a viking, an exploded space shuttle, a marauder, and an anteater).

Shirtblog: the Revenge

Welcome back shirt enthusiasts. Today's shirt is kind of a cheat because I wore it on Monday to Sea World, but I figure I'd blog about it today while the memories are fresh. Ali took a photo of me and my shirt in front of the Shark Encounter but I'll have to wait to get that from her to upload it. It's hard to read in my photo but right by the shark's mouth it says "sharks fear the" and it doesn't say anything else. It must be because sharks FEEL NO FEAR.


I think I've found my new favorite mascot. And that mascot is emo shark. There were other stuffed animals in sweatshirts, but the purple sweatshirt on the shark with a worried face immediately made him look emo.

Also apparently red bellied piranhas can be kind of boring during feeding time. There was a big crowd watching them and it took about 20 mins for them to finally go for their food. A guy in the crowd kept yelling "unleash the fury!" It was pretty cool once they finally did start eating, but I imagine it wasn't nearly as much carnage as Piranha 3D would have you believe.

In one of the aquariums there was a GIGANTIC grouper. The girl next to me said "damn, that fish got big Jay-Z lips". Thankfully I didn't laugh right then.

All in all a fantastic day. The sea lions were hilarious, the new dolphin show is ridiculous, and the weather was perfect.

Today's shirt represents the hipster D-bag Allison that you all know and love today. It isn't entirely accurate to what my favorite band is right now, but I don't actually own a Band of Horses shirt (yet). Death Cab for Cutie is probably the band that I have the most of and have listened to the most. My music recently has been pretty mellow, melodic indie stuff. I'm going to use this as an excuse to talk about music. The new cds that I would recommend would be by Band of Horses, The Black Keys, Broken Bells (huh, lots of B bands), Arcade Fire, Freelance Whales, The Swell Season. The Freelance Whales cd has been getting the most play lately. It kind of reminds me of what would happen if Owl City and Sufjan Stevens had a music baby. Though "Tighten Up" by the Black Keys managed to sneak up and become the song I've listened to the most on itunes. It's a fantastic cd if you happen to be interested in soul/r&b/southern rock.

I got this shirt at a Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins/Death Cab for Cutie concert that at the time I described as "if there a word more awesome than the word awesome, that word would be exactly the adjective I would use to describe how cool the concert was." I went with Elaine and I'm pretty sure that was like part of the year that we became super close friends and went on several exciting adventures. This concert is notable for being one where a frat guy ruined a slow piano ballad about someone passing away by yelling "Oh fuck yeah!" when he heard the opening notes.

Oh and the reason why there's also a picture with Dylan in the background is that he came over for lunch and specifically told me he hates having his picture taken. I of course did my best to get one of him as he of course did his best to hide behind me.

To my surprise I actually found it in yellow in the Atlantic Records store. It's only in black at the official DCFC store since it's out of print.
